Posting this is huge for me. Those that know me well know that I don’t post topless pics/videos of myself, unless taken from a flattering angle – (which I feel I don’t find often). For the longest time (actually, forever), I have always had issues with the top half of my naked body. Growing up a food lovin’ Greek gay boy in London and with a career in style/costume, I have for many reasons been body conscious. I’ve always carried a little more weight than ideally I probably should have. Purely because I know that I’m a little greedy and luuurrve my food and most likely don’t burn as many calories as I consume daily, or spend hours in the gym honing my physique. So, it’s no surprise that I’m not ripped. In clothes I know I look decent and having always loved fashion and trained in costume and style, I know I can figure out the best looks for my body shape. But mentally, I always thought I didn’t look good enough being topless, especially around my moobs area!🤭 I have been and still am always conscious of beach pics and the times that I have to be topless. Let me be clear, I’m an extremely happy, secure, positive guy, with a very blessed, lucky life and am in a happy marriage with a man who is my strength and support. He does nothing less than make me feel like I’m a King (he’s very much supporting me in posting this, as he knows what a positive message it could be). But in finding Yoga 20 odd years ago, it has taught me to look within and find an incredible strength and acceptance of myself. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from ready to start posting more topless pics of myself, far from it. I just wanted to post this, for me and for all the other ordinary bods out there (especially guys) who are not confident in showing their bodies like mine. To show that those who like their food (a little too much sometimes 😉) who like to keep fit, enjoy exercise; (which is extremely important for all, whatever style it is) can be healthy and strong, in body and in mind. I felt for me, it was important to post this, as:
1. For someone who preaches to others to be confident in themselves, no matter what. I should practice what I preach. So, voila 🤗
2. To show how keeping your body and mind strong can have such a positive effect on your wellbeing, no matter your body shape.
3. To give myself and others some confidence and self acceptance that we can be as we are and not worry too much that you have to look like others. (Not always easy, I know!)
4. Coz it’s a New Year and why not use it to try something new 😃.
5. (& most importantly) How yoga really isn’t just about slim bodies & bendy postures. It is absolutely for every and any body and really does have the most amazing affect on your mind, body, health, and wellbeing. It won’t fix everything, but if you allow it to, it certainly can guide you to find the most open and honest version of yourself, for yourself, inside and out. And in turn, enabling you to shine positivity for others; which has a beautiful ripple effect and creates such a wonderful vibe for you and those around you.
So, like I say, this is a difficult post. But sometimes, we need to do the difficult things to allow yourself to be free of any stigmas, feelings and fear and to find an acceptance of yourself, because, generally, the way you see yourself is not how others see you at all. (Many many friends and loved ones have told me that over the years – not always easy to believe but such truth).
A positive aura, an open heart and mind, love and of course kindness shines through, no matter your body shape.
And as I always say (jokingly and honestly); Yoga really will save the world. It certainly works for me. 🧘🏻♂️🙏🏼✨
